Paradise of Providencia

November 14, 2013

The biggest factor in making around the cape of “Gracia a Dios” (thank god in English) is the trade winds that blow predominantly from the east, exactly the direction of the first 350NM we have to travel to make it along the coast of Honduras before heading south east to the island of Providencia. The east coast of Nicaragua is not the most inviting of spots to get blown into as well, with lots of uncharted reef and the threat of a busy drug trade in the area, so with that in mind I planned to head well offshore to the Vivarillo bank before making the turn south. We got the break in the weather that we needed and on leaving Utila for the trip down I stocked up on as much fuel as I could as from the forecast it looked to be a few days of motoring east to make it around the cape before hopefully picking up some wind for the leg down to Providnecia.

Awesome climb to celebrate the end of another year. Epic, and long, mission up the couloior to Mt.Hopeless and a traverse off the SW ridge. Good type 2 fun.
@mr_joeknight back when you didn't have a fuzzy head and I had a fuzzy face hahaha. We been on a few epic adventures since then brother!
Spring is here and offering some stunning days for exploring. Camped just below the snow line and summited early Sunday morning. Great way to spend a weekend. #nz #mountain
Not a bad view from the office these days
Came across a big family of tahr on the last trip into the bush. Hadn't seen these in the wild before, and they're usually higher up above the bushline. So good getting out exploring here in NZ.

Well I guess winter has snuck up on me again. Mix of weather this last couple trips with a few good storms, sideways hail and a good dumping of snow. Time for some much needed r and r at home.
There's been a couple adventures had recently. Epic week up at Durville island, good mates, crazy mix of weather and a few fires on the beach. Cheers @mel.in.wanderland for the photo and great times.

Been an awesome week exploring fjordland with the crew on @puresaltnz. So much amazing country to explore down there and a true mix of South island nz weather thrown in. Flying out on the chopper today was nothing short of spectacular. It's "BIG" country down there. Put up some more pics soon. Yeeew.
The next light is alive and ready to go! #echinoidea #nz #woodworking
How awesome is this! Dinner under the first light I sold. So stoked to see it in place and couldn't think of a better place for it, at home with a fellow sailing family.
Latest exhibition at the parker gallery featured my echinoidea light. Pretty amazing to have this displayed in the space and to share a spot with some amazing local artists.

Well it got a little windy here in nelson. snapped moorong line (lucky I had back up ones) a shredded bimini and a bit of a mess inside. But at least kuhela is where I left her.
Next batch of echinoidea lights underway. Good to be back in the workshop creating again.
